glass painting

４年くらい前に作ったのかなぁ、、、古い額を買って来てガラスに直接絵を描きました。今はキッチンの窓際に置いてありますが、冬の長いミネソタ、緑が恋しくなるとなんとなくこれをみて元気を足します。

I made this glass painting with an old frame about four years ago. When I miss the green leaves during the long winter in Minnesota, I look at it and recharge my energy.

fire king / diamond Bowl

Fir Kingのこぶりのボウル。初めて見たこんな柄はダイヤボールと呼ばれているそうです。

いろんな色があるそうです。

This fire-king milk glass bowl is called 'Diamond Bowl.' I like its density, durable and design. They made different colors of diamonds.

スリフトストアで見つけた額。左の額の側面にこんなレリーフがあったとは家に帰りつくまで気づきませんでした。

何飾ろう？

I found them at the thrift store and did not realize that the left frame has a beautiful relief on its side until I got home. What do I put in them?

PEPPER & SALT

Hazel Atlas社のスパイスシェーカー。ミルクグラスでぼってりと重たい感じ。本当は１０本セットくらいだったようです。

These Hazel Atlas spice shakers are made of milk glass with a cute dutch windmill print and red tin lid. Originally they are set of 10 or more. 

Nut Cups

プラスチックのナッツカップ。手の中にすっぽりと入るくらいの小さなカップです。真上から見るとなんだかわからないですね。横から見るとこんな感じです。

These bright red nut cups make me cheer up!

カップの形、細工ともに愛嬌があります。

I just love this delicate shapes and the design.

カスタード皿/custard glass bowl

Anchor Hockingのカスタード皿。べっ甲のような渋い色で透けるときれい。

小ぶりで丈夫。何かと活躍中です。

This is made by Anchor Hocking. Very durable and great for the ice cream, salad and soup for the kids. I love this quiet color.

身近に古いもの / the old thing which is very close to me

考えてみればうちの家もかなりアンティーク？築１００年以上なのでドアノブも御覧の通りです。

Well, our house is over 100 years old and can be called 'antique' also.

Berry Bowl

ベリーボールというそうです。要は小皿なんですが、こういう感じのガラスの器、日本にもたくさんありますよね。

This kind of glass is called ' berry bowl.' There are similar kinds of glass wear in Japan, too.

Franciscan Discovery

シュガーポットです。取っ手のところがいびつなのが気にってます。

What I like in this sugar pot is the knob.

これはお隣の州、ウィスコンシン州で道に迷ってたまたま行き当たったアンティークショップでの戦利品です。大体アンティークショップにはもうすでに良い値のするものがショーケースなどに並べてあって、私はあまり興味がないので裏庭にある屋外ブースをひたすら物色。そしてこのジャーを掘り当てました。出会ったときは埃まみれ。でも今は奇麗になって白い星か雪のパターンが栄えて見えます。底をみたらアンカーホッキング社のロゴがありました。ラッキ〜。

I hit one antique shop in Wisconsin when I got lost. I found this glass jar there and it was covered with the dust. But after I took this to my place and washed clean, then came up this clear white snowflakes or star pattern. And I found the carved seal ' Anchor Hocking' on its bottom. Lucky!

tin can

いつもガラスものばかりに目がいくのですが、最近tin缶にも反応するようになってきました。なんとも完結でかわいい絵柄の缶です。

Usually, the glass wear catches my eyes but I am interested in these tin cans these days. This is a very  bright, simple and cute tin can.

Fire-King 'Footed' Mug

日本ではお馴染みのFire-Kingですがここミネソタの田舎街ではあまり知られていません。アメリカ人の友達に「Fire-Kingって知ってる？」と聞いてもほとんどの人は知りません。そしてそれが日本でどんだけ高値で取引されているか教えてあげるとみんなびっくりしています。

そんなわけで久々に見つけたFire-King。変わった形のマグカップだなと思ったら、フッテッドマグっていうそうです。知らなかった。

Fire-King is well known brand among Japanese collectors and they are exchanged wih a high price in Japan. But here in middle of nowhere, nobody knows and they are still pretty cheep. 

I found this unusual shape mug which is called 'Footed Mug.' 

日本のものこんにちわ / hello to japanese things

ダウンタウンのアンティークショップで足下に転がっていたどうしようもないものたちの中から陶器で出来たミニチュアの箪笥と椅子をみつけました。それぞれ裏を返すとJAPANと書かれてあり、なんだか不思議な縁を感じてレジへ。箪笥の方は蓋がなくなっていたので中に水をはって植物をいけました。ちなみに箪笥のディテールは手描き。椅子はなんだかぼってりしつつも艶やかでいい感じ。

I found these tiny shelf and chair at the shop in down town. They are not even in the show case but on the dusty floor. I picked up them and found 'JAPAN' stamp on their bottom. This shelf is missing its lid but still has beautiful hand painted details in gold, so I use this as a little vase and this tiny chair is waiting for somebody to sit.

tin can

色々悩んで結局買いました。made in USAの缶ものです。結構大きくてお裁縫箱にしたら素敵なんじゃなかろうかと。装飾もこっています。赤字に繊細な金の細工がとても奇麗。

This is my first tin can collection. I love this delicate detail in bright red and gold. It might be good for the sewing box.

はじめまして！/Nice to meet you!

一年の半分以上が冬という寒さの厳しいミネソタに移り住んでかれこれ６年目。アメリカ中西部の田舎街なのでしゃれた店もおいしいレストランも、いい本屋もレコード屋もなく、まあそんな生活も大して苦にならず、ー４０度Cの大自然がおりなす北の大地に身を委ねながら、時に、こっそりアメリカン・アンティークの宝探しをしています。このブログでは私の見つけたささやかな宝ものを紹介していきたいと思います。


This is the 6th year for me to live in Duluth, Minneosta where the half of the year is a winter. I am surviving this sever weather which temperature is 40 below sometimes, and enjoying the ice formation which is created by the great nature by the lake superior. And I am sometime scanning from the antique shop to the thrift store then find my pleasure to dig up buried treasure. I will introduce some of them thorough this blog from the northland. Thanks!
