It has been still chilly in Minnesota. I am still wearing merino wool sweater and fleece jacket. Where is the spring???

This pink glass is ready for the summer though.

久しぶりのブログ更新です。以前購入した額に何か写真はないかと探していたら８年ほど前に住んでいたハワイの写真が出てきました。いつもバルコニーから見ていた向かいのコンドミニアムやハイウェイを走ると視界を横切っていた椰子の木の姿が今はミネソタのスリフトストアで見つけた額に収まっております。この写真たて折り畳むとこんなにスタイリッシュに。

ただ今「ミネソタのゆで卵 web shop」作成中です。お楽しみに。

It took me for a while to update my blog site. Anyway, I was looking for some pictures to put in the old frame which I got the other day and found some when I was in Hawaii about 8 years ago. The white condo which I was seeing from the balcony everyday and the palm trees are in this old frame which I found at the thrift store in Minnesota. 

These days, I am working on my web shop for this site and looking forward to opening it soon. Please stay tuned.

The Bird Embroidery

数年前にサンフランシスコから遊びに来てくれた友人が古いもの好きで、一緒にダウンタウンの骨董屋へ出かけたときのこと。「いいもの見つけたから」と大きな包み紙を私にくれました。開けてみたら木枠に張られたこの鳥の刺繍。元々ついていた額は取り外し、シンプルな状態で子供部屋に掛けました。一番左の赤い鳥ははカーディナル、真ん中の針金の上にとまっているのはチキディー、かな？多少粗削りのステッチですがなんとも愛嬌があって好きです。とくに余白がいいでしょ？


Few years ago, a  friend of ours came to visit us from San Francisco. She loves old things so of course we went to some antique stores at downtown. After we left one store, she said 'I found something for you' then gave me a big package with a smile. I opened the wrapping paper and came out this lovely bird embroidery.  I took off the original frame, then hang it in my child's bedroom. I know the left red bird is cardinal which has a beautiful voice and the middle one who is sitting on the wire must be a chickadee, I guess. I would not say the stitch is delicate but I think it is very charming embroidery which was done by somebody else in a long time ago. And my favorite part is the blank space.

Spring is coming.

ミネソタの長かった冬もようやく終わりを告げようとしています。この一週間でそこら中の雪が融けてしまい，残っているのは路肩のアイス。昼間散歩に出るとそこら中に雪解け水がちょろちょろ流れ、あと少しで木々も芽吹いてきそうな感じ。
震災以来折り鶴バッグを作っていますがお陰さまで１２個販売致しました。皆様のご協力ありがとうございます。目標２０個までもうちょっと頑張ります。被災地にも早く心暖かな春が訪れますように。


The long winter in Minnesota is getting over. Within this week, most of the snow had melted and we only see the ice on the sidewalk. There are little streams from the melted snow here and there, and the trees are about to bud. 
We have been making Prayer Crane Bag to aid the victims of earthquake and tsunami in Japan and sold 12 bags so far. Thanks for supporting our project. We still continue to make these bags until we sell 20 of them. We hope the spring will be in the stricken area soon and warms everybody's heart.

lake superior agate

スペリオル湖で拾ったアガット（めのう石）です。

This is our family's agate collection which we picked at Lake Superior. 

太陽にかざすと透けて見えるものもあるし、奇麗な層が見れるものもあります。

The agate has a translucent color and some of them has beautiful layers.

なかなか大きいものに出会う事ができないので小粒の石がたくさんガラスのジャーに入っています。夏場などよく家族でビーチに行ってはコツコツと拾っています。一度はまるとやめられません。

It is hard to find the big one so the glass jars are filled with lots of little ones. Once you are into it, you can not stop finding them even when you are having a walk.

一時期はタンブラーまで買って拾って来た石を研磨し、ピカピカに磨いたりしていました。ただこのアガット、とても固い石でタンブラーの中に入れても１週間くらいひたすら回し続けていないと研磨されてきません。

We used to polish these agates by the tumbling machine but the agate is very hard so we have to run the machine all day all night for one week.

それで、このガラスジャー。誰かがこのフタにドリルで穴あけて、全く関係ない取っ手をナットで固定していました。面白いアイデア！

And this glass jar. The previous owner drilled two holes on the lid, and screw this cute plastic handle together. What a genius!

a child's garden of verses

この本は１９６９年に出版された『a child's garden of verses』という古い絵本です。友人が古本屋さんで見つけて娘にくれたのですが、Virginia Tiffanyという人によって刺された刺繍のなんとも可愛く素敵な絵本です。

This is an old picture book  which title is 'a child's garden of verses' published in 1969. One of our friend found this book and gave it to my daughter. Every page is filled with beautiful hand stitched embroidery and collage by Virginia Tiffany.

ページをめくる度に楽しい絵とお話。

As you turn the page, you will see the delightful pictures and stories.

きれいに収めようとせず、大胆な刺繍とコラージュがいいなぁって見とれます。

I like her free hand stitch and collage.

それからこの切り貼りの詩の部分、微妙に右下がりなのがいいですね。

And the level of the poet part. It is sliding down to the right little bit. These little things are my favorite.

まだ私が生まれる前に作られた絵本です。。。

This book is made before I was born...

作り手の気持ちがその一針一針を通して伝わってくる暖かい絵本だと思います。

This is a warm-hearted book which I can tell her cares and love thorough the every single stitch.
